Too much?

Have u ever felt guilty doing something that is actually the right thing to do? That is, if u define helping someone in need as the right thing to do.

Friendships and obligations. I once heard someone thinks that friendships are troublesome coz of obligations. Meaning, if u're a close friend of someone, u're supposed to be on her side (at least if u can't prove that she's wrong), to always support her and also to trust her judgment. Problems appear when u find out that things are not as simple as it seems, coz it's not as clear as black and white. There are a lot of gray areas, such as in cases of misunderstanding.

I'm facing such situation now. There's someone I recently got to know better. It started out with him needing my help. I've known him as one of my close friend's great 'enemy'. At first, he was more of a stranger to me and since it wasn't much a help, I just helped him willingly, keeping in mind not to forget about his tarnished reputation, thanks to my friend. And so I intended to keep our friendship as 'the helper and the helped' only. Turned out that he's far from what I had imagined him to be, which of course was nowhere close to being 'a nice guy'. He's actually quite nice and fun to talk to. But u know how the real problem appears?? It's not by failing to keep the friendship as 'the helper and the helped'. It's the exact opposite. It ironically turns out that he CONSTANTLY needs my help in a lot of things, from IT stuffs, admin stuffs, translating French, lending things, giving medicine to even cooking!!! Haizz.... Almost EVERYDAY he'll find something that needs my help and surely u'll have to chat when u're with someone else. That's how we kinda grew closer (as friends only, of course).

But now I'm feeling guilty towards my friend (the one who hates him. Haha...) The thing is I don't think she's wrong for being angry with him (coz he was being a total jerk to her). But I've once asked about it to the guy and he made it sound as if it was just a misunderstanding, I didn't probe further but I wouldn't say I trust him 100%. Oh well, nvm... Just that I'm too much of a chicken to tell her about my new found friend who's constantly in need of help coz I can just imagine what her reaction wud be. Sigh... So recently I started to be reluctant to help and sometimes even show it purposely. Besides, to tell the truth, sometimes I'm kinda bothered by his always depending on me, too (though I know often he really needs to).

Oh well... Next topic.

My JC friend came to Paris last Saturday!!! It really felt unbelievable for us to able to meet there in Paris. Had a great time with her together. I brought her around with another friend to see a few places in Paris. We had a fun time taking pics. LOL. We just walked around the whole day then we ate French food for dinner. Tried the famous 'foie gras' (duck liver). It was bluekkk. None of us liked it. It tasted bad, I think. Until now I wonder why it's just so famous. Sent her back to her hostel before we headed home. But we got pretty lost trying to find the location of her hostel.

Jerks

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

My blood's boiling now and there's no one online to talk to so I'm just gonna blog it. Just received some disturbing email from this guy. I shan't say what the message is about, but it's wayyy off line. I know that he's just joking around with me, I totally know. But doesn't that idiot know that there are just some limits to jokes? If he's one of my close friends maybe it's not so bad, but we barely know each other. We don't talk often, either. All we did was went clubbing ONCE. If he thinks that gives him the right to do this to me, he's so wrong. I'm just gonna drop the matter one last time coz I seriously think it's so childish, what he does. After that, if he ever do it again, that's it. I'll make sure he knows I'm not that patient anyway. I don't even care if I'll act like a bitch. He's an asshole to begin with, anyway.

As if it's not enough, he'll pretend as if nothing happened whenever we meet face to face. He only has the guts to say it through msg. Everytime we meet after that, he'll call, smile and make small talk. Wth man!! And they (he and his partner, of course) think it's so funny. I just think it's super childish, in an irritating way, of course. They really should grow up man. And they should learn that there are some things they should never say to just anybody.
Get a life!

School Life
I'm so totally not enjoying this sequence's school. I especially despise the labs. Now that I've experienced the lab here, I miss my labs in NUS. Life is soooo much easier there.
Like I said earlier, I'm taking a project based module and 1 core this sequence. I'm not worried about the project coz with my teammates, I should be able to pass. But the thing with a project is, it consists of discussions, which of course will be in French. Listening to a lecturer explaining a module in French is already so hard, but it's nothing compared to trying to understand the discussions of my teammates. Teachers tend to speak slower and more properly but fellow classmates won't bother. They speak so fast and sometimes with slangs, too. Haizz.... And I hate my project, it's so mathematical, with so many system equations, rules, derivations, and dunno what others. Even in English they are hard to comprehend, let alone in French. Sometimes I wonder y I chose EE... Haiz...

The other module is ok except for the labs. The labs are much more painful than the project. Basically it's the same problem, with the language and discussions. The labs are very much different from those in NUS. If I said I don't like labs in NUS last time, forgive me, I change my mind now. At least in NUS we are always told what to do at the beginning of the sessions, it's 3 hours only and the manuals give us a comprehensible step by step instructions. Here, the lab TA won't help except for emergencies, it's 5 freaking hours straight and the manuals are like shit. They are super thick, almost like a textbook, but it's for 2 sessions (and we have altogether 4 labs) with a chunk of explanations. But the problem is, they don't really tell us what to do in a step by step kind of way. So we have to figure out the steps ourselves. Haiz.... And 5 hours is just way too long. Seriously!

OK, enough complaints. Now the good news: I passed both my modules last sequence. Ironically (though I don't mind), my module in French scores higher than the in-English one. Don't ask me how. I have absolutely no idea how. Hahaha.... But, really thank God I manage to pass, with a satisfying mark. Now only left 2 more!! I have to start studying a bit next week, I think. Have been neglecting the modules so far. It's a good thing I only stay here for 1 semester, I become lazier with time.

Last week there was a short 4 days holiday over the weekend. The Supelec people went to Belgium and Holland but I stayed here coz I can't go outside France. I'm glad I didn't go with the guys, though. They told me what they see in Holland and the places they went to over there. It's like the Holland version of Geylang, only at a much more advanced level and of course, bigger scale. Hahaha... Went to Paris with the newcomer Indonesian guy instead. We went to try a lot of French food. He so loves to eat and the trip was full of food trying. We also went to La Defense then walked from there all the way to Champs-Elysee. Wanted to have dinner and try another French dish also but we didn't have time coz we wanted to catch the last bus which is at 9pm. So, we'll postpone the plan to this week, instead.

Was my mum's bdae last week on Monday. I didn't give her anything though this year. Haiz... not even a card. Feeling a bit bad here. But I'll do something nx year. Staying away from her for so long makes me realize how much she means to me. She's really the best mum to me, a really good fren to me, too. Though I always take her for granted. Oh, and she complained to me about both her children always don't mind cooking for other people but not for her. LOL. Oh well, looks like I have a lot of people to cook for once I got back to Spore. Can u all just come to my house on 1 day and I just cook for all of u? Rather than me cooking for different groups of people with of course the same menu again and again. After all u know I have very limited menu, of course with my famous black pepper beef and my infamous soup. LOL.

There's these 2 guys from NUS who just came last week to Supelec for 2 months research study. One of them is Indonesian. Kinda glad he's here coz somehow being able to speak Indonesian again face to face after so long makes me feel more like home. Hahaha... Went to this place called 'Catacomb' in Paris with him on the next day. It's an underground tunnels where some parts of them are used to bury people in the past. There were soooo many skulls there, arranged in piles along the tunnels. I have some pics of it but it's kinda late at night now and I'm feeling a bit creepy looking at it alone now. So, I'll do it some other time k? (Once a chicken always a chicken, right Ross? LOL) Oh, there was this time when we were inside the tunnel and got separated from the rest, then we were looking at one side of the tunnel when suddenly there was a pretty loud thump sound. Gosh, it scared us to death. We quickly walked faster to join the rest.

The next day I watched Spiderman 3 with Luc. It was OK I guess. And France cinema as u all guessed, is very expensive. 9 euros, which is like 18 sing. But OKlah, can't really see it that way. Anyway, it's free seating in France. Some people even sit on the stairs since the back seats were all full.

From there I met Dingying to have dinner together. Went to this Chinese food resto. It's very funny there, they use weighing machine to calculate the price. The food was nothing great.
We planned to go bar hopping that night, actually. We're supposed to meet with YeeJia and Jianghao at 9 and then go to Buddha Bar first, apparently a very famous one. Dingying has actually warned us about the place being super ex. But I didn't think it was THAT ex. The place is nice though, it's a resto bar with their own selection of exotic music. We only ordered one drink each, of course. That one drink was enough to fail our bar hopping plan. Haha... So we decided to walk around Paris at night, instead and just in time to catch the last train. That night I stayed overnight at YeeJia's place.

The nx day we went to a flea market just to see how it is here. Nothing interesting, though. Even the stuffs are lousy and the place is a bit eerie. There are a lot of scary looking people, some did the 'ni hao' thing to us over and over again. Hate it. So we only stayed for not even an hour and went to this science centre instead. Nothing much at the science centre except for this huge mirror ball. The rest of the day we just spent strolling in the park located behind the science centre. There were some musical performances there, so we stayed to watch them.

Ooops!

Hehehe.... Sorry people! I've warned u all about the exponential decay of my blog entries. LOL. Okok, so here's a recap of what have happened for the past.... oh man.... i think 1 month. LOL

Went to a 'soiree' the week after Easter break. It was at my school. This should convince u all even more of how ulu my school is located. We even have our own 'clubbing' lol. It's soooo far from anywhere so we need to have our own entertainment. Anyway, they actually have the soiree pretty often, once every 2 or 3 weeks, but this is the first time I went coz I don't really like the idea of going clubbing with someone I barely know and those I'm closer with here hate clubbing. It was ok, I guess. Enjoyed dancing to the music coz luckily they played english hip hop songs. The guys even forced me to went up to the stage with them and so I did. Oh and I confirm can't drink already. 3 glasses of cocktails and I couldn't take it already. LOL. Sigh... I'm hopeless.... What to do....

On Friday of the same week I went to this theme park called Asterix park with the Supelec guys. It was ok only. The rides are not bad but they're far from being the best that I've taken so far. U.S and Goldcoast ones are still the best.

(Man... I really shud update my blog more frequently. It's a bit hard tracing my memory back to 1 month ago. LOL. Okok, fine, I know I'm asking for it myself)

Hmmm.... I think for the rest of the week nothing much happened.
Oh, I went and apply for Czech visa the following week. Everything was good. They didn't make things difficult for me, thank God.

First weekend of May on Saturday, I went to a funfair near Paris with some frens. It's called 'Foire du Trone'. The funfair is really American style with lots of snacks, sandwiches, rides and games booths. The rides are really good, but since we have to pay per ride and each is around 10 euros, I only went for one, the most scary one (the most right pic). It was good. And super long. But it was one hell of an experience. After the ride we went to eat churos. Wanted ice cream at first but that night was very cold so the churos were more appealing that night. Be it due to the weather, the ambience or the company, the churos tasted fantastic. LOL

The next day, Sunday, was France's presidential election day. The friends I went with on Saturday warned me not to go out on Sunday coz there might be riots after the election but the thing is, I've promised some other friends to meet for dinner, so I just went. It was a nice gathering, a great time spent. We had steamboat in Yee Jia's place and while we're at it, we follow the election, too. They said if Sarkozy won, there'd be a concert at place de la Concorde but if Royal won, nothing will happen. So we were kinda hoping Sarkozy'll win and then if he did, we'll go to Concorde to see the concert.

And yeah, he did and so we did go there. It was quite an experience. Concorde is a big open space at the heart of Paris, from there we can see champs elysee and Eiffel. The place was full of Sarkozy's supporters, with the stage at one side. When we reached, the Eiffel tower was lighted up and blinking. There were minor fireworks also. I think the concert had the famous celebrities but I only recognise one: Tina Arena. Anyway, we didn't care, we just danced to the music and shouted Sarkozy's name along with the rest. For the fun of it only, of course. Near midnight, the new elected president came to give a short speech. Everybody cheered. It's really interesting to see, quite exciting also since this kind of thing I won't get to see neither in Spore (coz the election is always so proper and predictable) or in Jkt (coz it'll be too dangerous there).

Went back not long after that, and luckily nothing bad happened along the way. In place de la Bastille, there was really a riot, quite serious one. Dingying who stayed near there got to see the riot from her place. It's a good thing when she was walking home the riot has not reached her place yet. People were throwing stones and bottles at the police and the buildings. They destroyed the phone booths and a lot of other things and the police even used tear gas. Jianghao went to see on his bicycle (he's one crazy guy) but from afar. Still, the gas reached him and he said he couldn't help but to teared, even until he reached home. LOL.
