CNY!

Monday, February 19, 2007

Finally got some mood to blog again... It's been one whole week, so there are quite a few things happening actually.

Firstly, the CNY reunion dinner with all the Singapore people in Paris. It was last Sat nite, on the 10th. They made it 1 week earlier because the resto will be fully booked on the CNY eve. Before the dinner, I went with some friends to see the church at a hilltop, Sacre-Coeur, it overlooks the heart of Paris. From there, we went to see Moulin Rouge which is closeby. Since it's located along the Red District, we had quite an eye opener there. It's really blatant the way they show it. Quite amusing, really...

The dinner was nice, there were around 20 of us. The food was not bad. Met lots of new people there :D From there, we wanted to go to a pub but since there were 20 of us, none accepted us. The already very crowded pubs couldn't accomodate us. So we settled ourselves at a typical French cafe. Some of my friends recommend me 'vin chaud' (hot wine), they said it's the typical famous drink the French takes during winter. So I just follow their recommendation. It was ok only, too bitter in fact. We stayed til quite late, but it's ok, since we've missed the last bus anyway, so we had to walk up the hill. They decided to take a different route this time, from a different station. Well, it's just a different side of the same hill. The slopes were gentler, but longer, we walked around 1 hr from the station. It was a tiring day, we reached home at 2 plus, but I didn't mind the tiredness. :)

I was sooo tempted to skip church the next day. Besides, I didn't know where the church is. But, I already missed 2, so I forced myself to go. I had no choice but to trust my map reading skill which only sumtimes work. I used google earth to trace the way to the church. Luckily that time it worked! It's abt 40 min walk down the hill. I didn't get lost and arrived at the church pretty on time. Ok... except for this minor glitch. OKlah, quite major actually. I forgot the name of the church and mistook it for another! LOL... So I was walking and walking and walking rite, until I reach this building I thought was church but I couldn't see the name or any cross. So I asked the person guarding the entrance, "Is this the church St. Mitchel?" He looked confused for a while, then said "I'm not sure where that church is, but this is the church St. Matthieu" I think I stared at his face pretty long, cudn't really believe myself, then gave him a sheepish look ,and said, "ah ok... I meant that... It's a church..." He just looked at me confusedly. Then I quickly went inside. Ever since then, he remembers me already!!! So, he'll know when I skip church and when I come. LOL

Last Friday, we had a smaller CNY dinner again. This time with the closer people. Around 10 of us only, at SUPELEC. We had a steamboat, lots of springroll, chinese dessert, and wine as usual. After that, all of them came to my room, since it's the biggest, to play cards and chat. Apparently we made too much noise coz it's alr midnite that my neighbour (the unfriendly one) came out and protested. By 1 am, one by one they left to sleep. I can't sleep yet, since some of them still want to play, but I wasn't sleep anyway. So we played til 3 am. I can't believe it. We played hearts, and even though the guys kept helping me, I still lost. LOL. But they're damn good! I'm just a beginner...

Lastly, yesterday! I went shopping with Ding ying in Paris. It's the last week of sale season. There were soooo many people there. And I don't know why everytime we go together, we always get lost somehow.... But it was a successful trip! Unlike the previous one. I managed to buy boots and a few other small things. Feels good to shop!! :D It was really fun to shop with her...

The Irony

Monday, February 12, 2007

Have you ever wondered how is it possible to remember certain things so vividly? How sometimes it's impossible to forget certain things, no matter how hard u try to do it?? How certain memories can be so real like videotapes that replay themselves from time to time?

Some people believe, that one of the best ways to force yourself to move on with ur life when u are faced with a certain unfavourable situation is to forget the past. But that past they want to forget surely has both the bad and good memories, isn't it? And people like good things. So even if they tell themselves to forget the past, subconciously they tend to be unwilling to forget the good memories. But by remembering the good ones, they will also be reminded of the bad, since they both coexist together. So maybe that past is not something they can forget about at all. They can force themselves to try to forget anyway by focusing on the negative and ignore the positive things. If they are very determined, they might suceed for a whil e. But how shocking it will be to find out that just because of some minor thing that revokes part of the memories, those very same 'videotapes' replay again, still as vivid as ever. How scary it is to find how they have not aged a single bit. Which brought the question: have they moved on at all then??

Have u ever heard the saying "there is no such thing as coincidence in this world"? If the sentence is true, how then do we interprete those so-called coincidences?
It's ironic how a person can make u believe something u didn't initally agree at all, and u end up finding that belief is being shaken by that very person himself...

Ma premiere neige!!! (My first snow)

The school after snow!

Hahaha.... sorry ya... I've never really seen snow falling from the sky, u c. I've seen snow once, on top of mount Titlis, but neva seen the falling one. That morning I was just going out to school as usual. It's a good thing i left 5 min earlier. When I opened the door, everything is covered in snow. I was sooooooooooooo happy dat I was laffing to myself. Several other students looked at me so weirdly. I feel like telling them: "Hi, the weather is so nice ya today! Can u take a picture of me?" LOL... But i knew if I do dat they'll think i siao already. Lol.... Well, at least I look Asian, and most of them know there are 2 exchange students from Singapore. I guess some of them know already ya by that incident. LOL.

And u noe wat... That day I just couldn't concentrate in class. Not dat it makes much difference lah, coz even if I concentrate I only can grasp 10% of wat she says. So, wat's losing 10% worth of a lesson compared to my day dreaming. LOL... I just couldnt help it, I kept looking through the window, praying for it not to stop snowing too soon. It didn't!! When I finished, apparently it was snowing even more strongly. 3 guys were throwing small snow balls at each other. I was hoping they threw at me too, so I cud play with them. Haiz... but of coz they didn't lah ya. And I couldn't just start throwing at them, cud I? LOL...
By the time I reach my residence my head was full of small white snow, so niceeeee. I quickly ran to look at myself in the mirror, but by the time I reach, the snow was gone already. Haiz...

Anyway I went back to my room to take my camera and change to a warmer clothes, then went out myself coz everyone else is having class. Only me and Luc are very free here, but Luc wudn't wanna go out in that weather. It already stopped snowing when I was outside again. Haizzz... But still, the scenery was soooo pretty. It's like in the movies. Hahaha.... Sooo nice....

Oh and u noe wat, yesterday nite, means 1 day after it snows, there was minor hail here. It rained ice here. I was wondering how come it's so noisy the rain, then I looked out the window, it didn't look like hail coz it was so dark, so I opened the window and some ice as big as rice dropped into my room. Wahhhh..... Strange arh, luckily nobody was outside. My friend was saying I should have gone out coz it's good to make my skin thicker. LOL. Damn him!!

Didn't know snow is that soft!!

Photos from my room, the snow!

Chinatown-Chateau de Versailles
Ok, basically, last weekend I went out to Chinatown which is in Paris. Wah, I was so happy to be able to find all kinds of spices they don't have in the normal supermarkets. They even have other types of veggie, unlike the common supermarkets which only sells broccolli, lettuce and long beans. But since they're super x, i settle with broccoli again arh in the end. LOL.

After that went and meet a few other fellow Singaporeans. They are all super super nice people. M so glad to have them as companions here.

U noe... so many things are sooo pretty here... So I can't possibly feature all pics here lah. It's too tiring, so i've put all my pics at: http://picasaweb.google.com/rdelzz

So, I'll just feature more interesting pics here ya...

OK, first. Look at the car!!!!
It's french car. LOL. Une petite voiture! (A tiny car)
It's so small that I find it so cute. Only 2 ppl can fit in, but it's not sports car, lol, it's half the size of normal car i think.

I guess it'll b easier to drive that. I think I would be able to drive that small car, anyone want a ride? But get ur life and hospitalisation insurance first ya. Wahahaha.....

OK, next!!! I wanna complain!!!
U imagine ya. This photo on the left, i s taken from this train station, supposedly the nearest from my school. Guess how near is nearest????

U see, that stretch of trees where above is already the sky??? THAT'S WHERE SUPELEC IS!!!!! So yeah, to get to the station on sunday (coz no bus on sunday) and at nite after 9pm, we have to walk down the stupid hill, through some jungle, and out through a stretch of houses. It's soooo damn far and tiring u noe, the going up i mean. It's sooo steep the slope, mayb 30-40 degrees arh, but it feels like 50 degrees man!!!! Heh! I complained to my French friend, who the hell has the idea of building a school at the top of a hill, far from everywhere, in the middle of a stretch of fields. He just laffed and said, well, at least we got a nicer view and it's very peaceful here. Duh! Of course it's peaceful, there's noone else here except us. LOL

Anyway, other than the walking, the trip on sunday to Chateau de Versailles (Versailles Castle) is niceeeee. The weather was perfect, it's very cold but there was sun. So, very nice. The park is hugeeeeee. At the end of the trip we were so tired from all the walking. We walked 10 hrs almost non stop man. And on the way back i still had to climb that stupid hill with all the strength remaining in me (which was not much, really). The guys had to stop several times to wait for me lol.... Well, wat to do, I tried my best, I did! Hahaha....

Oh, and this is my fav place in the castle. It's sooooo pretty and feels so peaceful. I really like the place. In spring, it would be even prettier. I wud go there again in summer!!! Anyway, we went there to Versailles coz there's free entrance to all museums and castles on first sunday of every month during winter here. So, it's free!! Otherwise, it'll cost quite a lot. Yupz! We're a bunch of cheapskate people. LOL

C'est comme ca et c'est tout!

Monday, February 05, 2007

It's 10.30 pm here and of course, none of u is online. So I decided to blog it here, been holding it back since 2 days ago. But I really have to get it off my chest now...

I just can't understand how some people are so competitive, selfish and so unwilling to help others when there is no obvious reason as to why they should be like that. I'm not gonna mention any name here but those who are close to me should knowlah ya. Hahaha.... The thing is, I don't even remember myself asking for too much help coz I always tell myself not to depend too much on anyone except for those I can completely trust. And I seriously can't think of any way in which he's gonna be at a much disadvantage by helping me.

I don't know if it's because he's unwilling to, or he simply just don't care. It doesn't matter either way actually. I don't give a damn anymore. I'm done being nice to him. From now on, I won't care about anything anymore. Just now I had the chance for a tiny revenge actually. I almost chose to do it, but then I think again, I'm too tired lah. It's alrite. I won't see it as I'm helping him, it's more of I just help him so that he won't keep probing. It's not that I expect anything in return, but I was just surprised that after helping, not a single thanx was said. Didn't even ask how I was when he knows very well my situation. Bloody hell!!! I'm so pissed off.... Never understand how a person can be so inconsiderate, selfish and... just selfish!! All he cares or thinks about is just himself. But never mind, forget it lah. Just take it as a reminder for me to not ever be like that. Anyway, I still have many others who are super nice to me. :) :)

With or without his help, I'm gonna survive!!! C'est comme ca, et c'est tout!!
:D

And for those of u out there who've been there for me all the time, thanksssss.... Love u, muacks!!!! :D

OK.... Feeling better now.... Grinzzzzz :P

First trip to Paris

Thursday, February 01, 2007

Alrite... As usual, very slow. I actually went to Paris on last Sat with Luc, but only upload now. Anyway, Paris is soooo niceee :D :D

L'arc de Triomphe: our first destination. There's a museum inside but we didn't go.

This arc is actually a tribute to an unknown soldier. The right bottom corner is the pic of the tomb?? Actually I have no idea, I think it's quite silly to build such a grand arc to someone u dun even noe...

Oh well... maybe it's the French! LOL

Ok, so this one of the most famous avenue in the world begins with that l'arc de Triomphe. I heard it's the biggest avenue in the world. It IS big, plus a pedestrian walk on EACH side that are as big as the avenue. Along the long avenue are the high class shops. I didn't really go and visit the shops coz I was with Luc. Next time when my gal fren is here, I'll look around.

But, one thing for sure: it is beautiful!!! Walking along the avenue, in that weather (I'm a tourist from a tropical country... Otherwise, most tourists won't like it), and the view. Every single building carries the 'ancient' air. A lot of carvings... I can't describe it in words...

<-- This is the world-famous LIDO theatre. Well, I can't afford watching there, so I just took a pic in front of it :P

Following the avenue des Champs Elysee, we end up with a garden, not that nice, but quite unique coz it's large and the trees are cut neatly (right bottom corner). If u guys observe closely right, at the end of the avenue is the arc de Triomphe. See how straight the avenue is. It's pretty!!!

OK, anyway, on the other side of the garden is this big squarish place with an obelisk in the middle and 2 fountains on its sides. The place as usual is huge. It's called Place de la Concorde. Also famous.

Next, crossing the Place de la Concorde, we get to another long and big garden (below, u can also see the obelisk there). I was tired, so I asked Luc to stop and sit on the benches provided. The atmosphere is so nice, I cud sleep there. But it's a bit cold. I like it though.... :)

Moving on (this is like presentation :P), at the end of the garden is the Pyramide du Louvre!!! I will go inside one day, but not dat day. It's sooo huge. The whole building surrounding the pyramids is part of the museum.
They say if u wanna see the whole museum, it may take 3 whole days (well... I don't really appreciate paintings that much, so dat'll be 2 days for me ya! Hahaha....) Oh, the right one is pic of an arc leading to Louvre.

As if the walking is not enough, we continued further. It's the famous river La Seine, the river that crosses the heart of Paris. The small island in the middle of the river is called Ile-sumthing. Damn, I forget. Anyway, it's beautifulllll.... That boat is a glass boat where some people are having lunch. So nice riteeeee.... But dun ask me how much it costs. I won't even bother finding out. Hahahaha.....

Last but not least: Notre Dame de Paris!!!!!
Ignore the guy in the middle. He's a nobody to me. He just happened to be in the middle of the pic. LOL... There were so many people lah, I can't possibly wait til it's cleared out.
We went inside for a while....

Well, this is where we end our super long walk. I didn't even feel too tired. Can't wait til my next visit to Paris. Most probably is next week. :D :D
